about

After garnering a cult following of eager listeners and dancers, Spasta immortalises itself on wax, with six tracks from friends from all corners of the globe.

Spasta has always been a showcase of worldly sounds celebrating dance, community and connection and never taking itself too seriously. It’s a distinctive approach to music that has captured the hearts of Naarm dancers, with the Spasta event series attracting a cult following of local heads, searching for deep, expressive, global-inflected rhythms with not a drop of pretension on the d-floor.

Now, the beloved party comes to wax, with a 6-track compilation, showcasing friends from all corners of the globe that carry the Spasta sound.

The A-Side kicks off with an all Naarm collab between Amin Payne and Julian Steel for Permission, a spunky Balearic-not-Balearic number with licks on the guitar and percussion that takes you for a walk beachside. Vuta’s Udamrad is a d-floor ready, after-hours, pulse-quickening heater - handle with care. Rounding out the A-Side is the Club Dub of Eitsa! from Esa’s Afro Synth Band, an epic synth-forward space opera from Cape Town and beyond.

On the flip, Baila Comigo from Running Hot, an extended, dreamy workout that unravels slowly, inviting you to come and dance. A collaborative piece between Phil Mill and Bárbara Boeing comes in the shape of Infinto, a stealth bomb for the club, shifting up and down the gears with deft coolness, reaching moments of pure elation. The compilation closes with Moving Still’s Mr Shanab (Arabalo Mix), a slice of synth work heralding the hills, valleys, rivers and seas of the Middle East.
